Using the File Manager

Your account access includes the ability to easily access, view, edit or delete any files that exist on your account. This is effortlessly done through the cPanel control panel file management section. * * * ## Accessing the File Manager The first step is to log into your cPanel account. If you are unsure on how to do this, please view the following help article - '[How to log into cPanel](https://hostpresto.com/help/article/1)'. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/QRmld56.png "File manager 1") Once you have logged in, scroll down to the '**Files**' section and choose the option '**File Manager**'. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/wIVJ9ck.png "File manager 2") * * * ## File Manager Options Take a moment to familiarise yourself with the options available in File Manager. Down the left hand side, we can see the folders that on are on the account. Each of those have options to expand and collapse the folders to explore further into the respective directories. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/R6zMf3O.png "File manager 3") At the top, we can see a series of menu options giving us the ability to create files, create folders, upload, delete, rename or edit files. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/Pt8vXJR.png "File manager 4") * * * ## Create a New File Firstly decide where you would like the new file to be placed. Usually you'd choose the '**public_html**' folder because this contains all of your website folders and files. Click this folder to open it. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/OrcjFvc.png "File manager 5") To create the new file, select the '**File**' button from the top menu option. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/uQGwSUO.png "File manager 6") Next give the file a name in the '**New File Name**' section and remember to provide the extension i.e. text, .html or .php. Once entered, '**Create New File**'. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/2P3y23N.png "File manager 7") We can now see that the new file has been created in the respective folder with the respective name. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/DYyjLXr.png "File manager 8") * * * ## Edit a File To edit a file, click onto its name (you should find that it is now highlighted). Select '**Edit**' from the top menu. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/PQ0InhB.png "File manager 9") This process will now open the File Manager Text Editor. Select '**Edit**'. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/EGsNUh2.png "File manager 10") The file will now open with the respective content. Note that if you prefer to write in HTML, take advantage of the '**Use Code Editor**' menu option. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/ze0aZPK.png "File manager 12") Once you are happy with the changes, choose '**Save Changes**' from the menu. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/wYpJVtF.png "File manager 13") To verify the changes, select the file again and choose '**View**' from the top menu. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/Ju6cPlo.png "File manager 14") You should now see a preview of your file. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/FL2DeeJ.png "File manager 15") * * * ## Upload a File If you have a file that you would like to upload, choose the '**Upload**' option from the top menu. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/nLHdHKr.png "File manager 16") Choose the '**Select File**' button and locate the file on your system that you would like to upload to your site. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/gJRC3MB.png "File manager 17") Once selected, the process should automatically start the upload and confirm the progress. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/SQydH3Q.png "File manager 18") Once marked as 100%, return to the File Manager by selecting the '**Go Back**' option. Returning to the File Manager, choose the '**Reload**' menu option. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/aqFsnfE.png "File manager 19") You should now note your new file upload has been added. ![alt text](https://i.imgur.com/EQIyBpl.png "File manager 20") * * * ## Delete a File If you would like to delete a file, locate the file and select it (you should find that it is highlighted).
